Gender Equality and Women Empowerment
Women play key roles in Union of the Somali Cooperative Movements -UDHIS Gender equality and mainstreaming is one of the key areas UDHIS will prioritise in bridging the gap that has greatly widened due to the civil strife that rocked Somalia for decades and made women to be the most vulnerable in society. UDHIS will partner with any Cooperatives and organisation that is committed to women rights and women empowerment in Federal/Regional and Local communities. UDHIS first priority is eliminating poverty against women; create an enabling environment for equal opportunities for men and women, boys and girls and ending violence against women and girls through cooperative empowerment for women voices to be heard.
UDHIS’s Gender Equality and Women Empowerment is grounded on human rights agreements that governments have signed which include the Convention on the elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), the 1995 Beijing Platform for Action, and the UN resolutions, including the recent agreement of the Commission on the Status of Women on eliminating and preventing all forms of violence against women and girls.
